Solibro GmbH is a Joint Venture between Q-Cells SE (Germany) and Solibro AB (Sweden) with the objective to commercialize CIGS thin film solar modules. Cutting-edge solar technology
CIGS (Cu(In,Ga)Se2) has the highest efficiency potential among thin-film solar cell materials. The CIGS technology of Solibro is based on extensive research and development carried out at Uppsala University. These activities resulted in world class results, such as the current world record CIGS mini-module with 16.6% efficiency, and were the basis for the spin-off company Solibro AB. Development in Uppsala is now continued with expanded resources at Solibro Research AB, a subsidiary of Solibro GmbH.
On-going industrial expansion
Solibro is currently preparing to build a first production plant in the Solar Valley in Thalheim (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany). The factory will have a production capacity of about 25 MWp solar modules per year and employ more than 100 people. Production in this first facility will be ramped up during the second half of 2008. Further expansions will then follow.
Management
Solibro is managed by Dr. Johannes Segner and Dr. Lars Stolt, together representing vast industrial and technical experience:
• Dr. Johannes Segner (COO) has more than three decades of experience from development, operations and management in the semiconductor and glass coating industries. Over the last years, Dr. Segner worked as manager of large scale glass coating plants.
• Dr. Lars Stolt (CTO) started research on CIGS solar cells in the early 1980s at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. In the mid 1990s he moved as a professor to Uppsala University, where he headed the CIGS research in the framework of the Angstrom Solar Center. In 2001, Dr. Stolt co-founded Solibro AB as a vehicle for commercialization of the results achieved.

The success of Solibro GmbH depends crucially on the commitment and spirit of its employees. We proud ourselves as being result oriented and highly dedicated to and focussed on our task of commercializing CIGS. Bureaucracy, overhead and hierarchy are kept at a minimum. Last but not least, we enjoy our job – laughing is allowed!
